Abiding in Ag(r)ape

Passage: 1 John 4:7-21
Reflection:
This week we will look at another of Jesus’s I AM statements when He says: I am the vine – and you are the branches. In saying this, Jesus wants us all to get that we are to abide in Him (that is, stay attached) like grape branches to the vine so we may be fully alive in Him as He is in us. Through Him, we will always have the spiritual nourishment we need – a full life’s serving of God’s love.
In the scriptures, God’s love has a special name: Agape. Agape is no ordinary love – it is selfless, unconditional, lay-down-your-life for the other…love. It is love that always has the best interest of another at heart. Agape is the love Jesus has for us – and it is the love Jesus commands us to have for each other. When we do, Jesus says, you will abide in me and I will abide in you.
