Authority Song

Passage: Mark 1:21-28
Scripture for Sunday, Feb 4, 2024
Psalm 111
Mark 1: 21-28
Reflection: Many have sung about their attempts – and failures - to fight authority. From The Cricket’s “I Fought the Law” – to John Cougar’s “Authority Song” – there seems to be a collective resolve that - like it or not – it ain’t worth it to try to fight it!
Our Gospel reading from Mark this week points to an authority that we also can’t beat – but it’s one that we hopefully don’t mind – and that’s the ultimate authority in our lives – Jesus Christ. Mark makes in clear – with Jesus’ arrival, all authority – on heaven and earth – is here! And all who hear Him teach are astounded and amazed by his authority – even the unclean spirits who wonder what on earth he has to do with them? (The answer? Um…everything!)
Ask this week: What amazes and astounds you about by Christ’s authority in your life? Have you ever tried to fight it? How’d that go for you? Rather that fight – have you experienced healing and restoration by accepting His authority?
Do we believe that as a church we can stand together – astounded and amazed – at Christ’s authority – letting him lead the way?
Think about it. Read and pray on the scriptures. Let’s talk about God’s Word – on Sunday or any day! I look forward to worship with you this week.
