Meet You at the Gate

Passage: Acts 3:1-10
Acts 3: 1-10
Reflection: We continue along the week in our series in Acts. As we do we see that it didn’t take long for the new Church to hit the streets. Soon after Pentecost, and still very much fired up with the Spirit, Peter and John come upon a man who was disabled from birth. He is brought every day, we’re told, to sit at the “Beautiful Gate” (a large, ornate gate at the entrance to the “court of the Gentiles” in the Jerusalem Temple) where he begs for alms and depends on the kindness of strangers. Yet in the bold gaze and unwavering faith of Peter and John, the man sees that he is no stranger to the One in whose name he may find healing and hope for a better future. In Jesus’s name, the man receives renewed life – a gift far better than gold or silver. The story ends with his leaping to his feet and jumping for joy!
On whom are our eyes fixed? Into whose lives might we be sent to proclaim the life changing name of Jesus? On whom might we be called to extend a hand of healing, encouragement, friendship and hope? Who is waiting at the gate for Jesus to show up though us? Whose lives might we help to make more beautiful by our witness to our faith in His name?
