Please Pass the Witness (Hold the Broiled Fish)
April 18, 2021 | Mark Piedmonte
Passage: 1 John 3:1-7
Reflection:
I’ve never liked fish. So, I must confess it has always bothered me just a bit that when Jesus appears to His disciples after the resurrection and asks them for some food, they give Him a piece of broiled fish. What's worse - He ate it! (He didn’t even have any tarter sauce to hide the taste of it. Yech!)
But this account from the Gospel of Luke is more than just a sea food story. It’s really about the call for every disciple of Jesus to go and feed the world through their witness to the power of Jesus’s resurrection. It is about our call to get up and go – fishing for people and bringing them into the community of the faithful where repentance and forgiveness are offered to all.
