Passage: Acts 11:1-26

Reflection: If we want to maintain a healthy body, we need to watch what we’re eating and sometimes change our eating habits.  When we begin to multiply our intake of foods that are good for us, our bodies are better for it. This is true for the physical body…

…as well as the Body of the Church.

In our reading from Acts – Peter tells of a vision of a sheet lowered from heaven that contains all kinds of animals used for food and the voice of the Lord saying: “Eat!”  The problem for Peter – a devout Jew - is that these foods were considered “unclean.”  But Jesus also tells Peter – “What God has called clean – you must not profane.”

Peter comes to realize that these foods that the Lord shows him represent the Gentiles – people once considered unclean – but Peter is to go to them with the message of the Gospel.  When he does, he’s amazed at their understanding and the way God is working in them.  It then takes a little convincing, but the Church opens it doors fully to the Gentiles – multiplying from an “us and them” to a beautiful “we.”
